Stockholm through our eyes: Östermalm
Join us on a journey through Östermalm, from the magnificent Strandvägen to the quiet Villastaden. Discover the district's history, architecture and hidden gems.

1. Strandvägen early mornings
Strandvägen
When the city has just woken up, Strandvägen is at its most beautiful. The water is still, the boats rock gently at the quay and the large turn-of-the-century buildings are reflected in Nybroviken.
2. Östermalm's Market Hall
Östermalm's Market Hall
A place where food, history and everyday life meet under the same roof. Here are traces of both international influences and Swedish food traditions, in the middle of one of the city's most classic buildings from the 19th century.
3. Villastaden and the quiet quarters
Villastaden
Behind the wide boulevards hide quieter quarters with city villas, embassies and greenery. An area where architecture and urban planning tell a lot about Stockholm around the turn of the century 1900.
4. Karlaplan and the ideas of the stone city
Karlaplan
Karlaplan shows the late 1800s ambitions for a modern and representative capital. Wide streets, symmetry and large facades give the area a completely different feeling than Gamla Stan's narrow alleys.
5. Djurgårdsbron and the meeting with the water
Djurgårdsbron
Here, the inner city and greenery meet. The bridge marks the transition between Östermalm and Djurgården's quieter landscape and is one of our favorite places for walks along the water.
6. Humlegården
Humlegården
A green break in the middle of the stone city. Humlegården has gone from royal hop cultivation to city park and is today a place where Stockholmers meet for lunch, walks and rest under large trees.
7. Diplomatstaden and Nobel Park
Nobelparken
Furthest out towards Djurgårdsbrunnsviken, Östermalm becomes calmer and greener. Here are embassies, older villas and parks with views over the water — an area that feels far from the pace of the big city despite its proximity to the city.
